The Horizon 2203
184 Forbes St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010
The Horizon apartment is a residential high-rise building in Darlinghurst, a suburb in the inner-city of Sydney, Australia.
The Horizon is a forty-three storey prestressed concrete structure building design by an architect Harry Seidler and completed in 1998. The building features 260 apartments with a distinctive façade finished in rendered concrete. The client wished to renovate her two-bedroom apartment located on the 22nd floor with magnificent views overlooking Sydney CBD, the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House.
The client wanted to transform this apartment to enable more private space for herself, she requested the removal of the 2nd bedroom in order to all more space and a dressing room to the master bedroom. The client wanted a large open living space with natural light and natural timber floor to generate a bright and warm atmosphere in her space. The client has an allergic reaction to carpet and dust, so she requested not to use carpet in her space. The client asked to transform the kitchen space into the open living area and to include a small built-in dining table at the window to enjoy the views whilst eating.
The resulting design concept skillfully merged the different zones of the living, kitchen, dining and work space area into an open plan space which is minimal and functional. The master bedroom, dressing room and ensuite area were design with more privacy and personal space in mind. The KARE furniture was used as a feature to give this area a sense of vitality. The printed bi-fold door on the laundry area pop-up provide a focal point just beyond the entry corridor.
