Edgecliff is high-density housing suburb located in Sydney, Australia. Almost 80% of dwelling types in Edgecliff is apartments. The Edgecliff apartment is located on the north side of New South Head Road which is a quick walk to Edgecliff shopping centre and train station.

 

The Edgecliff apartment is four storey building with 12 units. The client already owned a single bedroom unit apartment on level four, and he purchased the additional roof space to extend his apartment.

 

The client requested the renovation and expansion of his single bedroom apartment into a contemporary and innovative living space. He wanted to bring natural light into every space and develop the roof area to create an extra bedroom.

 

During the design process, successfully combining two different spaces was challenging. The fourth floor and roof space did not overlap completely, so there were only a few tight options for a staircase to work. The staircase design is the main feature that connects the two levels. The solid timber tread with semi-framed glass balustrade generously transited the two different spaces and the skylight above the staircase provides ample natural light into the space. The Di Lorenzo Collection 01 tiles have been used as the feature bathroom tiles which give a sense of luxury and elegance into the space.
